walking toward the bridge. on Flickr.Thursday was the first day that some trains rolled back into service. This meant very limited service and lots and lots of crowding. Since I knew I was going into the office, I left my house before 7am and knew better than to go to the nearest station to my apartment with service, Roosevelt Avenue/Jackson Heights. Normally, 5 train routes service that station, the E, F, M, R, and 7. On Thursday, only the F was running local from 179th Street in Jamaica to 34th Street. I knew that station was going to be impossible, so I didn’t even think of attempting to get on over there. I walked toward the bridge, and once I got to Queensborough Plaza, I had an idea - get on the N, take it back to Astoria, and then double back toward the city. I’m glad I did that, because I had a seat the whole way.

lizard skin on Flickr.Sometimes, I accidentally shoot an image & at first glance it’s a dud, but looking closer, there’s more meaning and depth to the shot.
This older woman in a lizard print outfit was a very interesting subject. After Hipstamatic processed the image, I realized that the image was more interesting even though it’s not the shot that I originally intended. This is one of the things I like about using that particular app - there is a film like process that takes away the “instant gratification” effect that we’ve all grown so accustomed to. I noticed her hands, which almost matched chameleon-like to her outfit. You start paying attention to the other details, too - her brooch, watch, jewelry. It just all comes together.
