Those with bikes were able to get through the city far more easily than those who rely solely on cars or public transportation.
the hard-sell. 34th street. on Flickr.
One thing that struck me as a bit bizarre on Thursday afternoon on my way back to brave the F train home, was that on 34th Street (where the main shopping drag between 5th and 6th Avenues had power), ticket sellers for the Empire State Building were out in full force. Many were stopping just about EVERYBODY that walked by.

This deli is nowhere near the Highline, nor is it a 7-11 in disguise. It’s over on Eldridge Street in Chinatown.
hillside avenue, briarwood. as seen from the q44. on Flickr.
At the tail end of August, I took my last summer day. I had an errand to run in Jamaica (had to switch the National Grid account to my name after my old roommate left & the new lease was signed), and with a whole day ahead of me, I was anxious to continue my bus series. I decided to hop on the Q44 - one of the longest routes in Queens, which runs from Jamaica to the Bronx Zoo. It’s a very long ride, and the scenery changes quickly as it passes through each neighborhood.
Here is a shot taken near the beginning of the route on Hillside Avenue in Briarwood.
