Just before the Olympics started a couple of weeks ago, brand advocates for Ralph Lauren handed out American flags over by Bryant Park. In case you didn’t know, Ralph Lauren was the official USA team outfitter for the 2012 Games.

The original booth was replaced in 1998 complete with a neon flag to fit in with all the neon of Times Square. This past October, upgrades were made to make the lighting energy efficient, and the project employed both veterans and the disabled. The Times Square enlistment office is the most successful recruiting office in the country.

This young widow carried the flag presented to her along with a picture of her young husband, who was killed while serving the country. While we may disagree with the politics surrounding war, we need to honor and respect those who go and put their lives on the line.
