Since 1946, there has been an Armed Services Enlistment Station in Times Square. The original booth was replaced in 1998 complete with a neon flag to fit in with all the neon of Times Square. This past October, upgrades were made to make the lighting energy efficient, and the project employed both veterans and the disabled. The Times Square enlistment office is the most successful recruiting office in the country.

At the Veterans Day Parade, in addition to thanking those who have served, past and present, but families of the departed also marched. This young widow carried the flag presented to her along with a picture of her young husband, who was killed while serving the country. While we may disagree with the politics surrounding war, we need to honor and respect those who go and put their lives on the line.
