As a Queens native (although born in Brooklyn, I’ve pretty much lived in the borough for about 25+ years), I’ve lived in a bunch of different neighborhoods throughout the years. The one neighborhood that I feel most at home in, is Jackson Heights. I first moved to the neighborhood in 2004 and was attracted to the vibrancy and the diversity of the area. 74th Street is a kaleidoscope of saris, gold jewelry, and Indian trinkets.
Here’s a shot I took the other day that is pretty iconic of the area - a reflection of the infamous Indian restaurant, the Jackson Diner in a window display of saris.

74th Street in Jackson Heights is commonly known as Little India, with all the Indian restaurants, Patel Bros. supermarket, sari and gold shops. Walking down the street, the people of this vibrant community dress in traditional clothing while you can hear all the latest Bollywood hits blaring from the music stores.
