the candid city

For the most part, this blog has been focused on my street photography and candid shots but I figured that I’d show you another side to my work. I’ve been hired in the past for portraits, events, band shots, press shots, performances, etc. A little while ago, I did a shoot for my friends April and Steve who are expecting their first baby this month. They are an amazing couple, and last fall I did a shoot of their band, The Rosies at a semi-abandoned estate. The shots came out fantastic, and I offered to do a maternity shoot which is something I’ve never done, and since I’m working on my portfolio, I figured this was a good opportunity!
We spent a lovely afternoon at Astoria Park which provided a wonderful setting, especially with a few shots overlooking the bridge, a couple by the ice cream truck (not staged - he was there!), but this one, simply on a park bench is quite possibly my favorite of the set.
I definitely try not to do the cookie cutter approach to my photoshoots, and I just kind of let the magic happen when on location.
