The shiny glass structure is a far cry from the municipal garage that once stood over there that many considered to be the ugliest building in all of NYC. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find too many of my own photos of the old garage (I have to start looking through old prints), but it was a prime example of the brutalist movement in architecture. Had the space been maintained over the years rather than just left to rot with empty retail, horrible stenciled signs, and just plain neglect, I’m sure the building might have looked quite a bit different than the much-maligned eyesore it became.
