For the past month or so, my boyfriend and I have been busy promoting the Maker Faire in neighborhoods throughout the city. If you’re not familar with it, just think of an event where creators of all sorts come together to show & have people interact with their creations - it’s like the old concept of a World’s Fair and a modern science fair wrapped into one amazing event that all ages can appreciate and learn. More info at: http://makerfaire.com A few weeks ago we hit Astoria; we did this in two parts - one the section covering Steinway/Broadway/30th Ave, and the other Northern Astoria, covering the northern section of Steinway and Ditmars. We met lots of great store owners from many independent businesses from comic book stores and internet cafes to fabric and indie kids stores. We’ve also spoken to youth group leaders, youth centers, and even stumbled upon a Green Fair at the library in one outing! Here’s an indie fabric store on Ditmars - they also have a pretty big knitting section for those of you you love your Stitch N’ Bitch!
