eisenberg’s sandwich shop. on Flickr.
A few years ago, I worked practically across the street from Eisenberg’s Sandwich Shop on Fifth Avenue between 22nd and 23rd Streets in the Flatiron District. It’s one of those places that is charmingly frozen in time, that hasn’t really changed much. The food is straightforward and classic - I used to rely on their grilled cheese sandwiches, which were a perfect slice of comfort food. Oh, and don’t forget to get an egg cream while you’re at it.
A classic luncheonette like this is so rare these days - it’s an endangered species. Even the term itself, “luncheonette” is long gone from common vernacular.
